When one is young and lacks maturity, the demands of family, education and work schedules become reasons or excuses for not fully commit to religion.
Until Alhumdulilla, by the grace and mercy of Allah one is encouraged to recognise that the only way to enlighten one’s self from the daily trials and tribulations is to turn to Him and to build a deeper connection.
For me personally, I knew this was the only way to find an inner peace and contentment. One of the main ways to establish a connection with Allah (SWT), Muslims must perform the five daily prayers (Salah).
However, not coming from an Arabic background, I was reciting words that I knew were important, but I did not understand them.
So, I learnt the interpretation of the Salah, and it has helped me over the years, to understand that all the trials and tribulations one is faced with in life are indeed gifts that help to shape who we are. Allah is always there. It is up to us to find Him.
However, I realised that, while trying to make my Salah meaningful by focusing on the words, I was forgetting how many rakats I had read, and I was beginning to lose focus and make mistakes. So, I started to look for something that could help me keep count of my rakats and not disrupt the concentration of my salah.
I found an interactive prayer mat, which is helpful for learners, but not for practising Muslims.
I found two electronic rakat counters, but the digital numbers were too small to read from a standing position.
I needed something that could be read at a glance, was not obtrusive and which allowed me to focus on Allah (SWA).
After some extensive thought and research, the idea for the prostration (sajood) counter was born. Fast forward three years: and the sajood counter has become a reality.
I truly hope and believe that it will help many people, particularly those who suffer from memory problems, to improve their Salah experience and thus bring them closer to their Maker.
I would like to thank Innovative Design for their support and expertise.
Above all I thank Allah “Subhanahu wa Ta’ala for all the blessings he has bestowed upon me.
